Brazil defense minister will analyze jets

Brazil's defense minister says he'll make his own analysis of which fighter jet the country should buy -- even if a military study reportedly says a Swedish plane would be best.

Defense Minister Nelson Jobim tells the Folha de S. Paulo newspaper Friday that he'll analyze everything, check the numbers and make his own recommendation to President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

Jobim has earlier expressed a preference for the Rafale jet from France's Dassault.

Brazil's press says a military study leans toward Sweden's Gripen NG because of its lower price and the opportunity for Brazilian engineers to participate in developing technology.

The U.S.-based Boeing Co.'s F-18 Super Hornet also is a candidate.
